The mouse has been a pest in human existence ever since man first turn a cave into an abode. Requiring little food and virtually no water to survive, These critters breed prolifically. A pair of mice can multiply into more than a dozen in several weeks.
Building the better mouse trap have challenged Man's creative imagination. More than any other single item, there are over 4,400 patents on the mousetrap. There are mouse trap that works. While others defy logic and bring into question the inventor's sanity.

Mouse intrusions into human habitat have cause enormous damages to property. Thriving behind building wall structures and under the floors of our homes, these rodents chew up insulation and gnaw through electrical wiring creating potential fire hazard.
As fleas and disease carriers, they are not only a nuisance but also pose a dangerous health risk with their urine and feces contaminating exposed food.

Methods of eradication have been develop to kill, capture and control the millions of rodent that invade homes and other establishments.
Different mousetrap have been invented. From the simple and conventional to the more ingenious and elaborate.
Best bait for mouse trap
Mice are inquisitive creatures.They will examine anything new in their environment, especially if it is baited with food. Contrary to the popular notion that the best bait for a mouse trap is a piece of cheddar cheese, Mice actually prefer peanut butter, chocolate, seeds or a morsel of meat like bacon.

Conventional mouse traps
Snap mouse traps
Invented in the 1800's, the old fashion snap trap is still the most effective and economical. A spring loaded bar slams down with extreme force when the mouse takes the bait and step on a trip.
Sticky mouse traps
Uses strong adhesives or bonding materials on a surface to ensnare mice. These mouse glue traps are being opposed by some animal rights proponent as being unusually cruel. Mice will sometimes chew through their limbs or tear themselves apart just to break free from the glue board.
Multiple catch or live mouse traps
A more humane mouse trap employs mechanical spring loaded doors or tetter-totter like levers to capture and keep alive the mice inside the mousetrap's holding area. One has the option to release the mice in a far away distance to keep them from coming back.

Electronic mouse traps
Using food to lure the mouse or rat into the trap, the device then zaps the rodent with electricity powered by ordinary batteries.
Choker mouse traps
A device that suffocates the mouse. Containing a rubber ring which instantly contracts around the neck of the vermin as it sticks it's head into the trap.
Hi-tech mouse traps
One of the better commercial mousetraps.
When a mouse enters into the contraption's tunnel and crosses two infrared beams, it automatically seal shut the trap and a deadly dose of carbon dioxide floods the death chamber killing the trapped animal. The homeowner is then notified via text message when the process is over. NOTE; There is no reprieve or commutation of sentence. Execution is carried out immediately.

HOW TO BUILD A HOME MADE MOUSE TRAP ( How to get rid of mice for the conscientious pro-life advocate who is too cheap to buy a commercial mouse trap )
1. Use a toilet paper tube. Crease two lines to form a flat sided tunnel
2. Put a treat on one end of the tube. (peanut butter works well :)
3. Balance the tube precariously on the edge of a table or counter with the treat hanging directly over a tall sided receptacle ( at least 20 inches in height). A trash can will do.
The mouse will scurry to the yummy treat ( they love tunnels :) and fall into the bucket mousetrap or trash can.
Release the little fella at least a mile away from your residence if you do not want another unexpected visit.
No amount of traps, poisons or repellant will solve a mouse problem. Preventive measurement is a better alternative. Keep the house and it's environment clean. Have wall and floor cracks where mice can find entry into the house properly sealed off and keep all food stored in secure containers.

Amazing the ingenuity in all those mouse-traps on the pic slide Silent; quite humorous some of em. The cast iron ones look like medieval torture con(trap)tions! Yep, peanut butters the bait bandied about in these parts. Hey, the home-made hav-a heart trap is great for folks that wouldn't hurt a fly. Very cool hub Silent. I wrote a story about a 1950s farm where they found a bunch of wharf rats in the corn crib. The pop fixed up a trap out of mesh wire or something and the next day they caught over 50 of those suckers. Had to figure out what to do with em so they took em out to a field and gave a mongrel dog couple that had been slated for shooting a chance to prove their worth to the farm. Took the pair of dogs a few tries as the rats were released one at a time, but they got the hang of it and had a home on the farm as rodent destroyers ever after.
Alastar Packer ~ Those wharf rats may not have fully made the transition from scurrying inside hulls of seafaring ships to landlubbers and were probably still wobbly on their land legs.:) They were easy prey to the mongrel whose lineage was traced to the ratters in the gambling pits of Victorian England :))
Hah-hah, some good ones Silent! There were rat pits in America too. The mongrel pair took quite a beating on their noses and mouths to begin with but soon enough became proficient at it. Neighbors would even borrow em sometimes for the same thing.
Oh the poor little mouse. Before I write my stuff, I have to say that I adore mice. I had six pet ones as a little girl. Now I understand that if left to their own devices we would have mass mice kind, and that would not be good. But, I nearly had kittens looking at some of those horrible torture chamber traps. I hope that mice never rule earth, the thought of some of those traps set for us, yuk. Joking aside, great informative hub . Well done.

What a cool and fun article, with some very clever mouse trap engineering and architecture…the coffin is very unique. I remember once when I was little girl, my dad baited a traditional mouse trap with peanut butter in the basement when we had a couple of mice one year. {Yuck.} I asked, “But what about cheese?” He said, “No, they love peanut butter.” Your hub is the first time I’ve seen this fact mentioned in years.

This is so interesting, and I love your take on the best mouse traps to date, funny. I came accross the world's largest mouse trap a few days ago, forgot to bookmark it. I imagine you could write a great funny article about it. The clown face mouse trap is my favorite, but wondered why the maker chose clown instead of a cat.
